Redrum: No Turning Back
Melodic Hard Rock
Rating: 4.5/5.0

Redrum is a melodic hard rock band based in Thessaloniki (Greece). Athan 'Lyssa' Kazakis and Panos Baxevanis started the project in September 2003 and a year later they recorded 12 songs in a local studio. After getting in touch with the well known German vocalist Michael Bormann (Jaded Heart, Zeno, Bloodbound), they sent the material to Duisburg, where Michael recorded all the vocal parts and co-write a couple of the songs. Unfortunately, because of some line-up changes, they had to re-record all the drums and bass parts. The mix then took place in Michael’s 'RMB Studios,' where Panos, Athan and Michael finally completed 'No Turning Back.' The album was finally released in 2007 on Sleaszy Rider Records (Greece).

After four years and various live performances, it must feel good for Redrum to finally get their music out to the world. 'No Turning Back's is quality melodic rock with a big sound. It's hard to believe that this is a 'debut' album because the songs, production, and musicianship is simply top notch. Getting Michael Bormann to do vocals was quite an accomplishment. Bormann sounds at the top of his game (definitely better than his work with Bloodbound) delivering with passion and strength with that wonderfully raspy voice. To get a taste of his skill, 'Thirsty For Love' or 'Judgment Day' are representative of his talents. The later is likely the seminal track on the album. But there is a lot of good stuff here. Additionally, there is some brilliant guitar work on this album. Kazakis and Baxevanis should be complimented for their skill throughout.

As for other great tracks consider the opener 'Rise Up' which simply explodes with powerful rock. Also, there is the emotional and moving 'Innocent,' concerning the meaningless death of children. 'Rock Nation' is impressive rock anthem filled with bravado and tremendous guitar licks. 'Too Good To Be True' brings you that simple blues groove and gives supreme expression to Bormann's vocals.

I was extremely impressed by this initial offering from Redrum. There is not a dull song on this work. I sincerely hope that this band holds together and progresses into a bright future. Redrum is a class act of international quality. Highly recommended!

Along time coming to light, Redrum's 'No Turning Back' is some of the finest hard melodic rock you will find anywhere. With Michael Bormann on vocals this is a first class act from our friends in Greece. Redrum is not to be overlooked!
