Double Vision is an American Foreigner tribute band based out of New York City with veteran musicians from the area. These include singer Chandler Mogel (Outloud, Jeff Waters' Amerikan Kaos, Punky Meadows, etc.), drummer Scott Duboys (ex-Warrior Soul), bass player Scott Metaxas (ex-Prophet), guitarists Chris Schwartz and Paul Baccash, and keyboard Alex Lubin.
Traveling and touring up and down the East Coast, as well as across America, the sextet has garnered a loyal following from delivering Foreigner's classic rock with precision and enthusiasm. Now they turn to creating their own original music with their self-titled debut album, Double Vision, for the Frontiers Music label. The band commented on the new music:
We wanted to make a record that would be totally our own, but still contain a hat tip (or more) to Foreigner. We didn't want something derivative, but at the same time, something that would appeal to fans of the band. We wanted our own identity and stamp. However, we do feel that a good way to describe the album is that if you took all the different eras of Foreigner and rolled them into one, along with some other sporadic influences, it would sound something like Double Vision.
When I learned of Double Vision as a Foreigner tribute band, and that they would be releasing their own music, I purposely did not listen to any of their Foreigner covers. I did not want to be swayed by the thought they may be copycats, or worse, poor imitations of the real thing. Honestly, with the aforementioned comments by the band, Double Vision nailed it. Though greatly influenced by Foreigner (and other classic rock), they sound nothing like the British-American band.
Double Vision's music is original, fresh, and definitely worthy of the classic AOR melodic hard rock moniker. Every song is well-crafted and entertaining, becoming a fine mixture of three minute radio friendly hits and blow the roof of arena rockers. Favorites for this listener include the attached videos but also Youphoria, Silence Is Louder, Love Could Rule, and the tough rocker This Day And Age. The bonus is having Chandler Mogel on the microphone, one my favorite talented and versatile vocalists. (I still haven't listened to their cover material.)
All said, Double Vision's debut album is a solid and entertaining platter of original and fresh AOR melodic hard rock. Quite recommended.
