Over their nearly 40 year career iconic Canadian band Harem Scarem has sold more than a million records in 43 countries and delivered 12 Top 40 hits around the globe. Recently, in 2023, they celebrated the 30th anniversary of the most popular album Mood Swings with a special limited purple edition on vinyl. Now, the quartet returns with their 16th studio album Chasing Euphoria with an European tour now in progress.
Their label, Frontiers Music, commented: Chasing Euphoria brings back the band's classic sound and shows a band at the top of their game. A cohesive unit still able to deliver a power-rock-packed punch, swaggering riffs, and hooks to die for. Harry Hess and Pete Lesperance, without a doubt, show the world that their partnership still works."
For genre fans, Harem Scarem needs little introduction or explanation: they play classic, AOR accessible and radio-friendly, melodic hard rock. Their tunes are wrapped up in riff and vocal harmony, stylish song melody, memorable refrains, and slick guitar solos. As a long time listener, I've always found the vocal harmony prominent and as infectious as the choruses or guitar solos. As for the songs, they are all terrific. You've got some heavier tunes with A Falling Knife, Better The Devil You Know, and Wasted Years. Alternatively, the AOR groove rises within Chasing Euphoria, Gotta Keep Your Head Up, and In A Bad Way. A ballad arrives with World On Fire.
All said, for classic AOR melodic hard rock, it doesn't get much better than Canada's Harem Scarem. Chasing Euphoria delivers ten catchy and entertaining, arena-ready and radio-friendly, classic rock tunes. Easily recommended.
