What We Review

The heavy metal and melodic hard rock genre can be difficult to define with no one artist wishing to be pigeon-holed or misrepresented. With that caveat, Dangerdog Music Reviews will review albums from the following categories. If you questions about your genre, email me.

  • Melodic Psychedelic/Space Rock Rock
  • Progressive Rock
  • Melodic Alt/Indie Rock
  • Blues Rock
  • Glam/Sleaze Rock/Metal
  • Album Oriented Rock (AOR)
  • Traditional/Melodic Heavy Metal
  • Power Metal
  • Progressive Metal
  • Symphonic Metal
Dangerdog Music Reviews will NOT review:
  • UPDATE: as of AUGUST 1, 2015, INSTRUMENTAL ALBUMS WILL NOT BE REVIEWED (Exceptions may be made for artists who have been reviewed in the past.)
  • Anything that has 'core' in its description
  • Anything with death/dirty/black/hardcore vocals
  • Ambient/Electronic/Industrial Rock/Metal
  • Hip Hop/Rap (Totally sucks)
  • Dance/Club/Trance Music
  • Country/Bluegrass Music
  • Nu/Rap Metal
  • Black/Death Metal
  • Anything that promotes hatred or violence against Christianity.
Submission Guidelines (the fine print)

1) Note the What We Review section above for our criteria. Submission does not guarantee a review. Due to the volume of material received (more than 150 submissions or requests for review each month), even with every effort to listen to everything that crosses my desk, it is quite impossible for to me to review everything.

2) We prefer a physical CD for review. Demos or CDRs will not be reviewed. Additionally, an Electronic Press Kit (EPK) or digital download will be accepted for review for artists and labels outside the US and Canada, or those bands doing only digital delivery of their music. The EPK must be the complete album, and the sound files must be 320kbps or better, with promo materials and album cover artwork. Finally, we do not review streaming material.

3) Generally, DMR will not review material more than 60 days old from the time you are reading this, unless by prior arrangement.

It's Only Rock n Roll

If you're listening to a rock star in order to get your information on who to vote for, you're a bigger moron than they are. Why are we rock stars? Because we're morons. We sleep all day, we play music at night and very rarely do we sit around reading the Washington Journal.

Hard rock will always be hard rock, but you don't really know what is rock - and what isn't - anymore. I don't consider a lot of the pop things I hear on the radio to be rock n' roll. It's just kind of fragmented.
