What We Review

The heavy metal and melodic hard rock genre can be difficult to define with no one artist wishing to be pigeon-holed or misrepresented. With that caveat, DMR will review albums from the following categories:

  • Hard Rock
  • Melodic Hard Rock
  • Progressive Rock
  • Alternative/Modern Melodic Rock
  • Glam/Sleaze Rock/Metal
  • Adult/Album Oriented Rock (AOR)
  • Punk Rock
  • Traditional/Classic Heavy Metal
  • Melodic Metal
  • Progressive Metal
  • Power Metal
  • Symphonic/Gothic Metal
  • (Melodic) Thrash/Speed Metal
Some Modern and Extreme Metal including but not limited to:
  • Melodic Metalcore
  • Groove metal
  • Melodic Black/Death Metal
Generally, DMR will NOT review:
  • Electronica
  • Nu/Rap Metal
  • Ambient Rock/Metal
  • Industrial Metal
  • Traditional Death Metal
  • TraditionalBlack Metal
  • Grindcore
  • Deathcore
  • Pure Hardcore
  • All most anything that has 'core' in its description
  • Anything that promotes or glorifies hatred or violence against any race, creed, or religion (especially Christianity).
Submission Guidelines (the fine print)

1) Note the What We Review section above for our criteria. DMR reserves the right NOT to review a submission for any reason. Submission does not guarantee a review Due to the volume of material received, even with every effort to listen to everything that crosses our desk (more than 60 submissions or requests for review each month), it is quite impossible for to us to review everything..

2) Demos, incomplete CDs, CDs with voiceovers, or CDRs will NOT be reviewed. Additionally, we do not review streaming material. Hard copy (CD) is always preferred. (After all I am a music collecter.)

However, an Electronic Press Kit (EPK) or digital download may be accepted for review by request. The EPK must be the complete album with promo materials and album cover artwork. (Most established labels and/or artists outside North America will fit this stipulation.)

Unsolicited submissions are generally not considered for review, due to the volume of material received.

3) Generally, DMR will not review material more than 60 days old from the time you are reading this, unless by prior arrangement..

It's Only Rock n Roll

My big awakening happened when I was fourteen ... and listened to Aerosmith's Rocks. It hit me like a fucking ton of bricks. I sat there listening to it over and over ... I remember ... knowing that my life had changed. Now I identified with something.

That's a wonderful side effect of leather pants: when you pee yourself in them, they're more forgiving than jeans.
