What We Review

The heavy metal and melodic hard rock genre can be difficult to define with no one artist wishing to be pigeon-holed or misrepresented. With that caveat, DMR will review albums from the following categories:

  • Hard Rock
  • Heavy Rock
  • Melodic Hard Rock
  • Progressive Rock
  • Alternative/Modern Melodic Rock
  • Blues Rock
  • Glam/Sleaze Rock/Metal
  • Adult/Album Oriented Rock (AOR)
  • Punk Rock
  • Traditional/Classic Heavy Metal
  • Melodic Metal
  • Progressive Metal
  • Power Metal
  • Symphonic/Gothic Metal
  • (Melodic) Thrash/Speed Metal
Generally, DMR will NOT review:
  • Most anything that has 'core' in its description
  • Most anything where the primary vocals are death/black/hardcore vocals
  • Electronica
  • Hip Hop, Rap, and related nonsense
  • Dance/Club Music
  • Country, Bluegrass, and its variations
  • Nu/Rap Metal
  • Ambient Rock/Metal
  • Industrial Metal
  • Death Metal
  • Black Metal
  • Grindcore
  • Deathcore
  • Hardcore
  • Anything that promotes or glorifies hatred or violence against any race, creed, or religion, especially Christianity, but excepting Islam.
Submission Guidelines (the fine print)

1) Note the What We Review section above for our criteria. Submission does not guarantee a review. Due to the volume of material received, even with every effort to listen to everything that crosses my desk (more than 70 submissions or requests for review each month), it is quite impossible for to me to review everything.

2) Demos, CDRs or Promotional CDs will NOT be reviewed. We want the real thing. Additionally, we do not review streaming material. Hard copy (CD) is always preferred. (After all I am a music collecter.)

However, an Electronic Press Kit (EPK) or digital download may be accepted for review by request for artists and labels outside North America. The EPK must be the complete album, and the sound files must be 320kbps or better, with promo materials and album cover artwork.

Unsolicited submissions are generally not considered for review, due to the volume of material received.

3) Generally, DMR will not review material more than 60 days old from the time you are reading this, unless by prior arrangement..
