Sinner's Blood emerged from Chile with their debut album, The Mirror Star. The band is a collaboration between James Robledo, Chilean vocalist and producer, singer and multi-instrumentalist Nasson (Chaos Magic w/ Caterina Nix). Robledo has also released two solo albums on Frontiers Music, Wanted Man in 2021 and Broken Soul in 2023. Returning to assist Robledo and Nasson are bass player Nicolas Fisher and drummer Guillermo Pereira.
Essentially, for their second chapter Dark Horizons returns to their first chapter. Citing influences from such peers as Symphony X, Primal Fear, Evergrey, and Masterplan, Sinner's Blood mergers melodic metal with some power metal speed, hard rock groove, and AOR accessibility, notably with song melody and memorable refrains. Most songs are completed with Nasson's fast and fiery guitar solos.
Noting some songs, Victim Of The Will, The Firestorm, Enemy, and Bound deliver fast and heavy metal with plenty of groove and ripping solos. That last song, Bound, brings the AOR accessibility with it's catchy chorus. Two songs are subtle in their musical approach: The Voice Within, a ballad featuring acoustic guitar and The Man, The Burden And The Sea, built upon riff, gentle keys, and softer vocals. The closer, Redemption Or Fire, reminds of progressive power metal, yet it's the rhythm section that steals the show and moves the song along.
All said, Dark Horizons finds Sinner's Blood solidify their sound, offering listeners heavy melodic metal with elements of power metal, hard rock groove, and AOR accessibility and accompanied by terrific guitar solos. Very recommended.
