The barbarian beefcakes of heavy metal have returned. The German and Italian hybrid All For Metal was formed in 2022 by two vocalists, Tim "Tetzel" Schmidt (Asenblut) and Antonio Calanna, formerly of DeVicious. They dropped Legends in 2023 which was somewhat unique for having two female guitarists, Ursula Zanichelli and Jasmin Pabst. Now the sextet return with their follow up Gods Of Metal (Year Of The Dragon.
As noted my review of the previous album, the band name says it all. All For Metal is all about traditional European heavy power metal. Fast and heavy, bombastic and epic, power metal with strong song melody, vocal harmony, catchy refrains, and bristling guitar solos. Tenor Calanna promotes the vocal harmony and melody; Schmidt adds a deeper baritone style. There are no dirty or death vocals. Yay.
As for the songs, there's little to add to the previous paragraph. If you're a fan of Manowar, Gloryhammer, Blind Guardian, Hammerfall, or simply "keep-it-true" heavy metal, then All For Metal is for you. I would also refer you to the three videos on this page for a quick listen. Personally, I found myself attracted to the songs that had a significant underlying rock groove such as The Way Of The Samurai, Gods Of Metal, When Monsters Roar, or Like Thor And Loki. With the metal ballad, Path Of The Brave, Calanna takes on a more prominent lead vocal role. Valkyries In The Sky, a fast, heavy, and synth symphonic song features vocals from Laura Guldemond (Burning Witches) and guitar licks from Tim Hansen (Induction), the son of Helloween guitarist Kai Hansen. However, if you're looking for their cover of Scorpions' Rock You Like A Hurricane, it's not included on the platter.
All said, if you liked All For Metal's debut or can't get enough of classic, keep it true, fast and heavy, epic power metal, then AFM's Gods Of Metal should be on any headbangers' short list to purchase. Recommended.
