Wayward Sons: Score Settled EP

Melodic Hard Rock
4.0/5.0

On the heels of last year's studio album, Even Up The Score, England's Wayward Sons offers fans a Summer gift: a new seven song EP from the band, aptly titled Score Settled. An EP as a recording form comes in many forms. Often they're mixtures of songs that are new songs, B-sides, live recordings, or perhaps from elsewhere. Score Settled is indeed a hybrid.

Wayward Sons

As previously stated, the EP features seven songs. The first three are from the Even Up The Score recording session which did not make the cut. Not sure why because, of the three, Can't Take It Anymore is a classic Wayward Sons song: loaded with song melody and guitar/vocal harmony. It was definitely a favorite. The next three songs were only found on a physical format, notably a vinyl picture. These three songs are punchy and brief less than three minute wonders that, once more, will scratch the Wayward Sons' fan itch. I'm one of those faithful fans. The last song is Backslide performed live in the studio and appeared on Ghosts Of Yet To Come as the infamous Japanese bonus track for the edition of the same. "Live in the studio" can mean many things to different people. Suffice to say, it rocks without the crowd roar. Fundamentally, some punters might call Score Settled something of a novelty recording, but Wayward Sons' fans should dig it. The band remains consistent and constant purveyors of classic melodic hard rock. Recommended.
