Mayank: Mayank Featuring Gui Oliver

Melodic Hard Rock/AOR
4.5/5.0

Once more we look to new band to feature a vocalist from South America. The band is Mayank, and the vocalist is Gui Oliver who has worked with Aura, but more recently Landfall, a Brazilian hard rock band. For Mayank, Frontiers Music has teamed Oliver with Swedish musician and Perfect Plan guitarist Rolf Nordstrom. That's enough for me to take notice. Perfect Plan is a terrific AOR melodic hard rock band. Of course, the ubiquitous Frontiers Music master of many hats, Alessandro Del Vecchio, is involved in the band.

Mayank

Starting with Oliver, he has a classic rock voice, easily joining his vocal harmony and melody to the same parts of the song. He sings strong and clean, perhaps with a little more assertiveness on heavier tunes like Miracle Mile or Long Live The Soulless. Otherwise, the collection of songs within this self-titled debut follows classic AOR-infused melodic hard rock with notable guitar harmony, ripping solos, a generous keyboard statement, and plenty of rock rhythm and groove. These essentials are more present in such songs Billy Is On The Run, We Are One, or Destiny Calling. That synth statement, similar to Eighties rock, arise in Eternal Dream. Piano joins as more subtle guitar line for Julia's Smile, something of an anthemic ballad or vice versa. In the end, if you enjoy classic AOR accessible melodic hard rock made relevant for today, Mayank's debut album featuring vocalist Gui Oliver is the real deal. You will not be disappointed. Recommended.
