Feanor: Rise Of The Chosen One

Traditional Heavy/Power Metal
4.0/5.0

The last we heard from Argentine's Feanor was 2016's We Are Heavy Metal, wherein the band introduced us to a new vocalist, Sven D'Anna from Wizard. D'Anna returns for the new album, Rise Of The Chosen One, but the band also adds a new guitarist. Feanor has recruited American guitarist David Shankle, notable for his brief stint with Manowar in the early Nineties.

Feanor

As with past works, Feanor's fourth studio, Rise Of The Chosen One, finds the band delivering epic and bombastic, keep it true, heavy metal power metal. The album is another strong adventure into twin guitar harmony, rhythm section gallop and groove, strong vocal and choral harmony, and heaping helping of ambitious guitar solos from Mr Shankle. These elements are quite abundant within Rise Of The Dragon and the quite speedy This You Can Trust and Hell Is Waiting. Alternatively, something more heavy and steady, with moments of gallop, come with Together Forever and Bringer Of Pain which, musically, sound like twin brothers. A heavy metal anthem arrives with Fighting For A Dream. But the surprise of the album is the concluding 19 minute epic metal adventure The Return Of The Metal King wherein Feanor develops ancient tale The Odyssey in nine parts. The song ebbs and flows with tempo changes, moments of calm and heaviness, and elements of acoustic guitar and piano. The song finds Feanor exploring new territory by blending their classic heavy metal with progressive metal intrigue. All in all, Feanor's Rise Of The Chosen One is another well-crafted, entertaining, and perhaps more adventurous album of their traditional heavy power metal. Recommended.

The Bottom Line

Feanor's Rise Of The Chosen One is another well-crafted, entertaining, and perhaps more adventurous album of their traditional heavy power metal. Recommended.
