Enuff Z'Nuff: Hardrock Nite

Melodic Hard Rock (Beatles Tribute Album)
4.0/5.0

American rock band Enuff Z'Nuff returns to revisit their rock roots with their new album, Hardrock Nite. Co-founder of the band Chip Z'Nuff has been unapologetic about how The Beatles have influenced his music. Now his band offers their tribute to that seminal British pop rock band, with Hardrock Nite a play on words of Hard Day's Night.

Enuff Z'Nuff

Essentially, the album is a collection of Enuff Z'Nuff's favorite Beatles songs and several songs from solo careers of Lennon (Cold Turkey) and McCartney (Jet, Live And Let Die). They are given Enuff Z'Nuff's hard rock twist. People who know me, and constant readers of Dangerdog Music Reviews, know that I'm not a huge Beatles fan. But there are a few songs a really dig. Enuff Z'Nuff picked the right ones: Helter Skelter, Back In The USSR, Eleanor Rigby, Revolution (guitar and scream well-placed), and With A Little Help From My Friends are some of my favorites. Because, simply, back in their day, it proved that The Beatles could rock rather than play bubble gum girly music.

However, I do like U2's cover of Helter Skelter better, and nobody can top Joe Cocker's version of With A Little Help From My Friends. As for the solo material? I could care two wits about John Lennon. Grossly overrated after The Beatles Split. But McCartney's Live And Let Die is given a bit more melancholy start, but still rocks hard. For Jet, if there is any song on this album where Chip can sound like Paul, this is it (and it rock heavier too). All said, if you're a Beatles and Enuff Z'Nuff fan, you will dig their interpretation of some very classic Beatles songs within Hardrock Nite. Recommended.
