Stan Bush: Change The World
Stan Bush - Change The World CD Album Review

Stan Bush: Change The World

AOR/Melodic Hard Rock
5.0/5.0

Stan Bush may not be a melodic rock household name, but the singer songwriter has around and active for better than 30 years. Though he's dropped many studio albums he's mostly known for either his voice or a song appearing in movies and television. For example, there's Never Surrender appeared in Jean Claude Van Dame's Kickboxer. The Touch is heard in the Mark Wahlberg's Boogie Nights and the animated Transformers: The Movie, and continues to have a legacy in the movie franchise to this day. Until I Was Loved By You, from The Guiding Light soap opera, won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Song. Now Bush returns with his thirteenth solo album, and revisits some of his classic favorites, including the aforementioned Never Surrender and The Touch and Dare from The Transformers legacy.

The Stan Bush sound is recognizable and so, easily understood. He delivers Eighties style classic AOR melodic rock, with large inspirational overtones in his lyrics. Think songs like Survivor's Eye Of The Tiger. As for his voice, Bush sings strong and clean, his voice easily following and supporting the melody and harmony of every song. Sometimes you'll hear a soulful tone to his voice as within The Other Side Of Love. But mostly, Bush is simply a classic rock singer, and can he belt out the tunes.

As for his music, the Survivor reference is not to far off, but it's more simply an amalgamation of the Eighties AOR sound. Melody, harmony, and groove are preeminent in his songs. For the melody and harmony, his voice and the guitar lines lead the way. The rhythm section delivers the infectious rock groove that keeps your feet moving. Then you can toss in liberal amounts of keyboards for accent and atmosphere. Of course, guitar solos rise in every song. But perhaps what sets a Bush song, and the genre as a whole, apart is his knack to craft catchy hooks in memorable melodic arrangements and sweet refrains. Every song bristles with these important elements, but the killer tracks are The Touch, Live Your Dream, Born To Win, Dare, and Warrior. Overall, with Change The World Stan Bush delivers impressive, entertaining, and essential AOR melodic rock for a new generation. Quite recommended.
