Rising from Italy, Not Over Yet is something of an interesting international studio project. It's interesting because the founding core of the band is essentially the rhythm section, which features siblings Giulia Cerardi and Luca Cerardi, on rhythm guitar and drums respectively, with bass player Luigi Stefanini. To record their debut album Axioms Of Life, Not Over Yet recruited a bevy of international singers and guitarists. These include Luca Princiotta, lead guitars (Doro Pesch), Chris Poland, lead guitars (OHM, Megadeth), Blaze Bayley, vocals (Blaze), Zak Stevens, vocals (TSO, Savatage, et al), Dylan Rose, vocals (Archer Nation), Charlie Huhn, vocals (Foghat, Gary Moore, et al) and Greg Izor, vocals.
Musically, Not Over Yet delivers melodic hard rock, sometimes with a metal edge, and then wraps their songs in AOR accessibility, thanks to an abundance of melody, harmony, and groove. As you might suspect, the songs in composition and presence can reflect the guest artists who add their own talents and timbre.
For instance, Back To Square One definitely has a more metal edge with Blaze Bayley at the microphone. With the song Some Blues, vocal newcomer Greg Izor adds a soulful presence; guitarist Luca Princiotta a subtle blues guitar line. Then there's the groovy, bit bluesy, rocker Boomshake where Charlie Huhn voice moves with the rhythmic groove of the bass and drums. A more straight up rocker comes with Breathe, featuring vocalist Dylan Rose, where the riffs are sharp and thick, the pacing more brisk, and Luca Princiotta delivers a killer rock guitar solo. But the most interesting song here might be the closing Let's Stay Together. With the acoustic guitar, drum shuffle, and lean bass line, vocalist Greg Izor adds harmonica, giving the song a country blues timbre.
All in all, though short at a mere 33 minutes, Not Over Yet's Axioms Of Life packs a punch with its abundant variety of creative melodic hard rock tunes. Recommended.

By far, Sweden's Eclipse is one of my favorite bands. Always consistent and always entertaining, Eclipse has been delivering their 21st century version of melodic metal rock since songwriter, producer ... [ Read More ]
