Nashville Pussy: Up The Dosage
Nashville Pussy Up The Dosage CD Album Review

Nashville Pussy: Up The Dosage

Hard Rock/Heavy Metal
4.0/5.0

When I check in with the escapades of Nashville Pussy, which isn't that often, usually when a new album comes around, they always seem to be on tour in Europe. It's not that they don't tour in the States. They did an East Coast tour this past fall (2013). Yet, of all places in Europe, the band seems quite popular in France. I don't know why that strikes me as odd, except the fact that the French have always been odd birds themselves. I guess the usually proper French like their dirty rock n rool. But moving along ...

Nashville Pussy: burning down a club in France.

Nashville Pussy returns with their sixth studio album, Up The Dosage, likely the best Pussy you're going to get to date. (Sorry for the pornographic literary entendre). While the band strays little from their hard rock and heavy metal roots, with a light country flair, this album boasts some terrific rockers, Blaine Cartwright's humorous and wry lyrics, and a lively modern, yet still stripped down, production.

I'm not sure what I appreciate more about Nashville Pussy, that thick rock groove in their metal or Cartwright's lyrics. Spent, Till the Meat Falls Off the Bone, Beginning of the End, and Rub It Too Death (which could have been a Motorhead song), thump along with a deadly toe-tapping, fist-pumping, groove. Nice rockin' stuff. For a real country angle there's Before the Drugs Where Off and Hooray for Cocaine, Hooray for Tennessee featuring dobro and mandolin.

Then, within some of the same aforementioned songs you get Cartwright's twisted, sometimes acerbic, humor. There's the sexual suggestions of Before the Drugs Where Off, the satirical Hooray for Cocaine, Hooray for Tennessee and The South's Too Fat to Rise Again (damn funny), and Pussy's Not A Dirty Word, it makes the world go round. Really? Did not know that? Okay, I love pussy too, but I don't have to chase it. My wife is quite the lover, but that's too much information for you.

If you like your rock, hard and heavy, dirty and sleazy, yet with groove, grit, and humor, then enjoy the latest from Nashville Pussy.
