White Wizzard: Over the Top

Melodic/Heavy Metal
Rating: 4.5/5.0

If you missed Los Angeles based White Wizzard's first offering High Speed GTO, then shame on you, especially if you dig classic melodic heavy metal. This year White Wizzard returns with an epic disc of melodic heavy metal on Over the Top. Without apology White Wizzard resurrects the music that made heavy metal both famous and the inspiration for every variation we hear today.

Drawing from everything from Iron Maiden to Judas Priest to Accept or Anvil, WW does all things well, point of fact. Bringing a blistering rhythm section, heroic vocals, and stinging guitar solos, White Wizzard excel in performance. High Roller, Live Free or Die, or 40 Deuces are such quintessential works to make their musical heroes jealous. Over the Top is so against modern metal trends to be uniquely ingenious, even throwing current metal youngsters on their heads. There was a time when metal was heavy, melodic, and offensive without being harsh and ugly (like much modern metal). White Wizzard is the real deal. Their classic metal genius, interpreted for a new generation, shows on Iron Goddess or Over the Top.

Like their relatives on the East Coast Icarus Witch, White Wizzard raise the banner of genuine and historic heavy metal. This is the foundation of our heavy metal nation. Thanks to White Wizzard for reminding of us of both are history and future. Highly recommended, buy this album!
