Days Before Tomorrow: The Sky Is Falling

Days Before Tomorrow: The Sky Is Falling

Melodic/Progressive Rock
Rating: 5.0/5.0

It's rare these days to find rays of brilliance in the American progressive rock arena. But New Jersey's Days Before Tomorrow and their debut album The Sky Is Falling is one of those brilliant Damascus Road rays of beauty which can blind and transform. Produced by Ron Nevison (no references necessary) and mixed by Grammy award winning engineer Earl Cohen (Christina Aguilera, Usher, et al), The Sky Is Falling is profound and original masterpiece which combines the melody and atmosphere of melodic rock and AOR with the sophistication of prog rock. Indeed, without exaggeration, I could easily exhaust the depth of my Thesaurus when describing this delightful album. (But I won't burden you with the excess.)

From lyrics to song arrangement to musicianship, The Sky Is Falling, a sort of sci-fi concept album, is breathtaking tour de force of muscular and melodic rock. Though all performers excel with ingenuity and acumen, lead vocalist Eric Klein is simply stunning as he moves effortlessly between smooth subtlety (Wasted Years 1) and grand and soaring (Survival and Wasted Years III). The Sky Is Falling is thick with rich compositions lavishing layer upon layer of melody and instrumental intrigue with Lighters, Last Song, Wasted Years II, and Survival among the very best. From beginning to end, there is much to hear and enjoy reminding of some other epic and intelligent works like Pink Floyd's The Wall or Ambrosia's Somewhere I've Never Traveled.

Days Before Tomorrow's The Sky Is Falling is truly a remarkable and immensely enjoyable work of melodic progressive rock. It ripe and full of immense and melodic arrangements which intrigue and inspire. If this is the future of American progressive rock, then look out world, we are in excellent hands. Highly recommended!
