Crystal Viper: At The Edge Of Time EP

Heavy Metal
4.0/5.0

Just in time for the Summer festival season, Poland's Crystal Viper returns to drop a brand new EP, At The Edge Of Time. Available in 10" vinyl with a digital download included, the album includes five new recordings from the traditional heavy metal band, featuring vocalist, guitarist, and principal songwriter Marta Gabriel.

Crystal Viper

Being a short EP, we can summarize the songs rather quickly. The album kicks off with the title track, something of a fast paced metal number with a sweet mellow breakdown shortly after the midpoint, which is then followed by a killer guitar solo. Later, with Zwiastun Burzy, you get the Polish language version of the song. You might recall When The Sun Goes Down from last year's Queen Of The Witches. This is a new rendering of the song called the Giallo Version. The remake features some scant church organ before steady heavy metal kicks in.

When Are You is a simple metal ballad with Ms Gabriel's voice over piano. The EP rounds out with a cover of Quartz' Tell Me Why, a melodic heavy metal number that turns on a slick rock groove and more killer guitar leads. Though it's hardly a long player, At The Edge Of Time displays Crystal Viper in their finest form, delivering classic and traditional heavy metal. Recommended.
