Seventies rock pioneer Michael Stanley to release new CD ‘The Hang’

Michael Stanley The HangMuch to the excitement of fans and music critics worldwide, music legend Michael Stanley will be releasing his 25th album ‘The Hang’ on March 2012 on From the mid ’70s to the mid ’80s, the Michael Stanley Band enjoyed a strong and fiercely loyal following, touring with some of the superstar bands of that period including Bruce Springsteen, The Eagles, Foreigner and The Doobie Brothers. With over 70 minutes of music, the latest CD from Michael Stanley features twelve new original compositions and covers of songs written by Dire Strait’s Mark Knopfler and songwriter extraordinaire Patty Griffin. Once again the album was mixed by legendary Bill Szymczyk and features the talents of Michael’s road band, The Resonators throughout. (more…)

Grifter named one of the best heavy rock albums of 2011 by music websites

Grifter 2011 It’s been hailed as one of the best albums of 2011. Not by one or two, but by several of the biggest hard rock websites in the world. The Soda Shop. The Obelisk. The Ripple Effect. Heavy Planet.  Chybucca Sounds. Sonic Abuse and more. Captain Zen Beyond has called them “the best classic rock band around” and the album “brilliant without any weak points.” Classic Rock Magazine saw their brand of hard-driving rock to be fitting enough for one of their cover-mounted compilation CD’s. In 2011, Grifter took the hard-rock scene by storm with their new self-titled album of gritty, blues-based biker rock. (more…)

Dangerdog Music Reviews picks some really good albums from 2011

Dangerdog Music Reviews Best of 20112011 was another banner year for all things melodic hard rock and heavy metal, progressive rock and metal. However, after reviewing more than 400 albums, and listening to nearly 200 more submissions, it’s hard, sometimes, to recall what truly stood out, what real cream rose to the top.

But being the glutton for punishment that I am, once more I’ll attempt to pick my favorites of 2011. Here’s my top picks, about 15,  in three general genres: aor/melodic (sometimes hard) rock, heavy metal, and progressive rock/metal. Again, these are in no particular order. (more…)

UFO: ‘Seven Deadly’ Artwork, Track Listing Revealed

UFO Seven DeadlyBritish rock legends UFO will release their new album, “Seven Deadly”, on February 28, 2012 (one day earlier internationally) via SPV/Steamhammer. The effort, which was recorded with producer Tommy Newton at his Area 51 studio in Celle, Germany, will be made available as a limited-edition digipack (including two bonus tracks), a double gatefold LP with printed innersleeves and colored vinyl, standard-edition CD and as a digital download. Ripple Music, the home of authentic, retro rock and metal, is proud to announce the signing of Northern Ireland’s most explosive rock n’ roll import, Trucker Diablo!   After blowing away the crowds from the stages of 2011’s Download Festival, this Irish four-piece grabbed the attention of the U.S. rock label Ripple Music and immediately began working on plans to get the music heard around the world.
