Many readers and visitors to Dangerdog Music Reviews have asked, Why is there is almost always a picture of UFO in concert in the web site banner? Damn good question. It shows that are readers are above average in intelligence. Yet, I wonder how many visitors know who UFO is. Obviously they cannot know why UFO is important to me. That’s like having inside information on the JFK shooting. So here is the reason. (more…)

Retroactive Records, based in Iowa, will release four Collector’s Edition reissues from three notable Christian metal bands. The titles include Daniel Band‘s 1982 seminal work On Rock, two from Titanic, Maiden Voyage (1996) and Screaming in Silence (2002), and Final Axe‘s Beyond Hell’s Gate (recorded in 1989, released 2005). These reissues are an excellent contribution to the history of hard rock, heavy metal, and the Christian inspired influence to both genres. (more…)

Evolution, they say, is the natural order of things. The evolution and expansion of the heavy metal genres seems a given these days. Heavy metal, thrash metal, death metal, viking metal, melodic death metal and now, with Swashbuckle, we have pirate thrash death metal. Bald Freak Records sent Swashbuckle’s 2006 release, Crewed by the Damned, along with several other ancient releases (ignoring Dangerdog Review guidelines) for my consideration. While I will eventually listen to them all, this is the only one I’ll comment on. (more…)
