Lizzies: On Thin Ice
Lizzies - On Thin Ice Music Review

Lizzies: On Thin Ice

Hard/Heavy Rock
3.0/5.0

Back from Madrid, and following a quite auspicious debut album Good Luck, Lizzies returns with their sophomore album On Thin Ice. With its arrival, Lizzies is no longer a fully female rock band; they've got a dude (Dani) on drums. Otherwise, little else has changed, the gals still deliver their familiar brand of heavy metal hard rock.

Lizzies

My first impression after one spin was simply, On Thin Ice doesn't have quite the ambition and enthusiasm of the debut album. Certainly, Lizzies can deliver plenty of rollicking rock rhythm and groove, sharp and robust riffs, and plenty of terrific guitar solos. Yet, with some songs, there was this sluggish groove that made the songs sound merely heavy and plodding, such as I'm Paranoid, Playing With Death, Final Sentence, and World Eyes On Me. Conversely, when the gals add some quickness to their beat and groove, they can really rock out. You'll find this with Rosa Maria, The Crown, and my favorite song here, Talk Shit And Get Hit, great song title. Frankly, and sadly, these songs were the only ones that made my final hit list. You may feel different, but with many songs having a plodding vibe, I think Lizzies may have been visited by the dreaded "sophomore jinx" for On Thin Ice.
